In March of 2007, The French Tart became the realization of a life-long dream for me, to create a cozy French restaurant with recipes gathered nearly 20 years ago from a visit to La Varenne Cooking School, Paris. Now seemed as appropriate a time as any to begin a new endeavor, especially in light of the fact that both of my children have graduated and are serving in The United States Marine Corp. Yes, I am very proud of them!

I have chosen to define The French Tart as a "bistro", a word which connotes a unique sense of intimacy not found at other types of restaurants. Authentic French bistros are small, quaint neighborhood establishments where the owner knows the patrons and tends to the guests and the kitchen simultaneously. Tables are situated close together and the food tastes delicious yet comfortingly familiar. Bistro cooking is bold, yet it is reminiscent of the best home cooking rather than standard restaurant fare. Bistro food is not worshiped or feigned over, but rather, takes its natural place in the moment as you share special time with family and friends.

The creation of the French Tart Menu involved months of planning and testing. During that time we gathered some of our favorite French ingredients to use in our creations. Calvados, Cognac, creme fraiche, mustards, apples, cheeses, lots of fresh herbs and gourmet nuts took their respective places on our kitchen shelves. We believe these quality ingredients produce exceptional food. It is our hope that you will find the results of our work delicious and decidedly different from other offerings in our area. Most importantly, we hope you feel at home.

We have placed great emphasis on our coffee and tea selection. These exceptional beverages can bring as much pleasure to the palette as our French Cassoulet or Alsatian Apple Tart. You will find all of our beverages available for sale in the gift shop, as well as the Kousmichoff and Mariebelle teas from France. We also represent Tea Forte, an artful line of exquisite teas blended by a company in New England.

Please do join us next time you are in the neighborhood. Because our seating is limited, we would appreciate your calling ahead for a reservation. In the event that we are full, please visit our other location, The Glenwood Village & Tearoom, 3310 Line Avenue, just four minutes straight North of us, inside the old Glenwood Drug Store.
